Throughout the two-day program, students actively participated in workshops and discussion, as well as team-building activities, designed to strengthen their communication, collaboration, resilience, self-awareness, and mentoring skills. Their enthusiasm and maturity, together with a willingness to challenge themselves, were evident across both days.
We sincerely thank the staff who helped plan and deliver the program; their preparation meant the two days ran smoothly and offered a rewarding experience for everyone involved. As the first of its kind at the College, the workshop marks the start of a new leadership pathway that we hope to offer future Year 9 students as they consider applying for Year 10 Peer Support Leader positions.
The workshop also reflected our Ignatian tradition, encouraging students to be reflective, discerning, and self-aware, and to live as people for others. As participants consider the next steps in their leadership journey, we encourage them to think about what they have learned and identify how they can put these skills into action within the College community and beyond.
‘The Peer Support Workshop provided our Year 9 students with a valuable opportunity to develop the skills and qualities that underpin authentic leadership. It was inspiring to see students challenge themselves, work collaboratively, and reflect thoughtfully on how they can support others. In the Ignatian tradition, leadership is not about position or status, but about service. I am confident that the experiences gained through this program will help our students grow as compassionate, capable young people who seek to make a positive difference in their community.’

Whether or not students are appointed to formal leadership positions, each has the capacity to lead with compassion and courage, and to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
