SECONDARY LEARNING
AT JOHN XXIII COLLEGE

Our Secondary School is an engaged, inclusive community where students are challenged to grow as learners and as people.

We offer a broad, contemporary curriculum, strong pastoral care and wellbeing programs, and a wealth of co-curricular opportunities.

Our focus is on developing competence, conscience, and compassion – preparing students for academic success, personal growth, and life beyond school.

TRANSITION TO YEAR 7

Our Year 7 program is carefully structured to ensure a smooth and supportive transition into Secondary School.

Students are welcomed into a learning environment that provides them with a sense of place and belonging, and nurtures the development of key skills and routines required for the rigour of Secondary School. This includes:

  • a strong focus on pastoral care
  • a wellbeing program promoting personal and social capability, digital literacy and responsibility, and organisational strategies
  • opportunities to explore a range of electives and co-curricular activities
  • a dedicated Year 7 area designed for both independent and collaborative learning.

YEARS 7 to 9

In Years 7 to 9, students explore a wide range of subjects and discover their interests and strengths.

The curriculum is designed to be engaging, challenging, and relevant, with specialist teachers in areas such as:

  • religious education, English, mathematics, science, and humanities
  • languages (Japanese and Italian)
  • the arts, including music, visual arts, and drama
  • technologies and digital literacy
  • health and physical education

Students are encouraged to participate in co-curricular programs, leadership opportunities, and community service, fostering resilience, responsibility, and respect.

YEARS 10 to 12

The senior years are a time for students to refine their goals and pursue their chosen pathways.

With access to highly qualified academic staff, students are supported in both their studies and wellbeing. The curriculum offers:

  • a wide selection of ATAR, Curtin UniReady, General, and vocational courses
  • academic monitoring and mentoring to help students set goals, stay motivated, and refine study skills
  • leadership opportunities, extension programs, and co-curricular activities

At every stage, learning in Secondary at John XXIII College is more than academic achievement – it is about growing in conscience, competence and character, ready to make a positive impact in the world.

PATHWAYS

We recognise that every student’s journey is unique. Our flexible pathways ensure all students can achieve their personal best and prepare for life after school.

UNIVERSITY DIRECT

For students aiming for direct university entry, our ATAR pathway offers a rigorous academic program, expert teaching, and comprehensive support. Students select from a wide range of ATAR subjects and are guided through the university application process.

CURTIN UNIREADY

Curtin UniReady is a university preparation program offered in partnership with Curtin University, designed for students seeking a direct pathway to university. The program offers a supportive, flexible alternative to the traditional ATAR route. An applied learning approach, UniReady is designed to help students develop the academic skills and confidence needed for university study, with a focus on literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking.

UNIVERSITY TRANSITION

A hybrid pathway that blends ATAR and General courses, providing flexibility for students who may wish to pursue university entry via alternative pathways. This option allows students to balance academic study with vocational interests.

TRAINING DIRECT

Our VET pathway is designed for students seeking direct entry into training or employment. Students can complete recognised qualifications while still at school, gaining practical skills and workplace experience. The College partners with external providers to offer a range of VET courses.
