STUDENT WELLBEING AND COUNSELLING

Our team of psychologists and counsellors provide confidential, professional support across a range of needs.

Families or staff with concerns about a student's wellbeing should contact the relevant Assistant Deputy Principal (ADP) or Head of Primary, who will refer to the College psychologist or counsellor. Students may also make an appointment directly, by email or in person.

LEARNING SUPPORT AND INCLUSION

John XXIII College is committed to nurturing the potential of every student through a holistic, inclusive approach where every student has equitable access to genuine opportunities for academic growth.

Primary Literacy and Numeracy
The Primary Literacy and Numeracy Program provides targeted support for students who need additional help. Small-group intervention programs focus on targeted instruction in phonics, spelling, reading, writing, and numeracy skills.

Secondary Learning Enrichment
The Learning Enrichment Team supports Secondary students with specific learning needs. Literacy and numeracy support is provided to students on an individual basis, in small groups and in mainstream classes. Additional support in the areas of executive functioning, organisation and time management is provided by experienced educators and Education Assistants. The Learning Enrichment Team works in close partnership with parents, College staff and external networks to ensure that students are well cared for in support of their learning.

Mary Ward Support
The Mary Ward Primary and Secondary programs welcome students with physical and intellectual disabilities, providing them with individualised learning programs and opportunities to engage in mainstream learning. Supported by dedicated teams of specialist teachers and Education Assistants in safe and nurturing environments, students develop academic, social and life skills. This inclusive approach also provides students with opportunities to engage with their broader peers through College and community events.

Gifted and Talented Extension
Students requiring academic extension benefit from in-class extension activities with advanced content, higher-order thinking and problem-solving tasks, independent research and inquiry projects, and peer mentoring opportunities through the Primary Gifted and Talented Program and Secondary Magis Program.

TRANSITIONS AND PATHWAYS

New Students
The transition of new students to the College assists in developing a sense of belonging, confidence, and readiness to engage in their new community. Supports include orientation activities with peer buddies and pastoral support from staff.

Years 10 to 12 Pathways
Our Pathways and Transition team works with Secondary students to identify their strengths, explore future pathways, and make informed decisions about their future. Students in Years 10 to 12 benefit from goal-setting, course counselling, and career advice, as well as access to tertiary and vocational opportunities.
