Students were divided into three groups, each beginning their experience at a different location – Redgate Beach, Conto Road and Camp Margaret River – before setting up their campsites and rotating through the program's four core activities: hiking, initiative-based team building, abseiling and a high ropes course.
Central to the Outdoor Education course is the vertical challenge component, which gives students hands-on experience in belay technique, rock climbing, abseiling and knot tying. These skills, developed across practical sessions throughout the year, were applied with confidence during the camp's vertical activities.
The program is designed to do more than build physical capability. By placing students in environments where the consequences of decisions are genuine and immediate, it cultivates social responsibility and sharpens the kind of judgment that cannot be developed in a classroom alone. Group challenges and team-building activities also provided opportunities for both individual and collective growth in leadership.
Cold, clear nights around the campfire rounded out each day – a reminder that some of the most valuable learning happens in the spaces between structured activity.
The camp was supported by Belgravia Outdoor Education Group.
