2017 Sr Mary Murray Interhouse Swimming Carnival

Thursday 16 February 2017

There was much anticipation for the Sr Mary Murray House Swimming Carnival for 2017. Our new students in Year 7 enjoyed their Pre-Swimming Carnival trials during Week One and results indicated that we were in for a big carnival.swim-01.jpg

By morning break, there appeared to be a change in the air. Our dominant House for the past 6 years, Koolyangarra, were in a surprise position of sixth place. A hush had fallen over the crowd with the realisation that the top prize could be anyone's.

Students demonstrated excellent participation throughout the day and efforts were at an all-time high during the novelty events.

As they say 'all good things must come to an end' and in 2017 we finally saw a change of guard with Loyola victorious in finishing winners of the Sr Mary Murray Interhouse Swimming Cup, this being Loyola's first ever Swimming Carnival victory in their history at John XXIII College. Congratulations to Loreto who took out the Spirit award.

We saw some a number of records broken in the pool including the following:

Alice Williams (Year 7)
100m Freestyle
50 m Freestyle

Asher Stevenson (Year 7)
50m Backstroke

Sasha Bell (Year 10)
100m Freestyle
50 m Backstroke
50 m Breaststroke
50 m Butterfly
50 m Freestyle

Sian Munks (Year 12)

Year 10 Boys Loyola Relay Team

Please note – Age Champions will be announced during the Secondary School Assembly on Thursday 23 February and results will be posted in next week's newsletter.

A very big thank you to all parents, volunteers, staff and students on a fantastic day. Without the support of our wonderful College Community, events like these would not be possible.

Please stay tuned for our ACC Swimming Carnival which will take place on 22 March. Congratulations to all those involved.
