Year 11 Music ATAR
Overview
The Year 11 Music ATAR course encourages students to explore a range of musical experiences through the chosen musical context - Western Art Music. The course consists of a written component and a practical component, incorporating the following content areas: Aural, Theory & Composition, Cultural & Historical Analysis, and Performance. Students can choose to perform on voice or instrument in a choice four contexts: Western Art Music, Jazz, Contemporary Music or Music Theatre, and/or submit a composition portfolio to fulfil the requirements of the practical component.

The unit content is divided into a written and practical component and includes the knowledge, understandings and skills in the following content areas:

Assessment
Each unit is assessed as follows:
Written Component (50%):
- Aural (12%)
- Theory & Composition (8%)
- Cultural & Historical Analysis (10%)
- Written Examination (20%)
Practical Component (50%):
- Prepared Repertoire (10%)
- Other Performance Activities (10%)
- Performance Examination (30%)
Reporting
Student's assessment results and overall achievement will be reflected in the end-of-semester reports.
Student Expectations / Homework
Students are expected to regularly revise all concepts covered in class to further enhance their musicianship skills and prepare for upcoming assessments. They are given specific tasks to complete at home to improve their skills across all content areas. Due to the challenging nature of the course, frequent revision and effective study is essential.
Moreover, students are expected to complete focused and effective instrumental practice daily, to prepare for the performance component of the course and other performance opportunities offered at the College.
