Year 12 Mathematics 1DE

Overview

In this non-tertiary entry course students will use integers, decimals, fractions, percentages, ratios and numbers with powers for practical purposes. They will apply mathematics to make financial decisions and calculate interest and repayments for loans. They will express and solve simple algebraic equations. They will draw graphs to represent real situations, and use them to describe how quantities are related. They will calculate area and perimeters of circles and use the Pythagoras' theorem for calculating the length of the sides of right triangles. They will use trigonometry to calculate measurements in right triangles, and calculate volume and surface area of shapes. They will describe the effects of transforming shapes in design, and will dilate and distorte figures. They will analyse networks. Students will simulate everyday chance events, calculate probabilities and predict using probabilities. Students will collect, display and analyse data and describe trends. They will use mental strategies, written methods, calculators and computer technologies where appropriate.

Topics

  • estimation and calculation
  • equivalence, equations and inequalities
  • finance
  • time
  • length, area, mass, volume and capacity, angle
  • location
  • transformations
  • collect, organize, represent and interpret data
  • functions, graphs and patterns
  • finance
  • networks
  • conduct chance experiments
  • quantify and interpret chance

Further elaboration of these topics may be found in program of learning issued to the students at the commencement of the course.

Assessments

Assessment will include projects: 50% | tests: 50%

Reporting

A brief interim report on class work and behaviour will be issued towards the end of Term 1.
