Year 7 Italian

Overview

The students will learn about Italian culture in the context of forms of address in introductions and the similarities and differences between students' own culture and the target language culture in the context of festivities. The students will exchange information about themselves and others using strategies that support the development of the language.

  • Numbers, Ages, Colours
  • Months of the Year - Birthdays
  • Family
  • Descriptions of self and others
  • Pets
  • Pastimes
  • Important celebrations: Carnevale, Easter, Christmas.

Assessments

The student's achievements are assessed generally at the end of each topic. These assessments are undertaken in a number of ways, including quizzes, listening activities and general conversation. Some assessments are anecdotal. The duration of these assessments vary according to the skill that is being assessed.

Reporting

A Excellent: The student demonstrates achievement that has greatly exceeded the expected standard. Their achievement is well beyond what is expected at this year level.

B Good: The student demonstrates achievement that exceeds the expected standard.

C Satisfactory: The student demonstrates achievement at the expected standard. The student is able to progress to the next level of learning.

D Limited: The student demonstrates achievement below the expected standard. The student demonstrates a quality of learning that is adequate for progression but will still need additional support or assistance to progress.

E Very Low: The student demonstrates achievement below the minimum acceptable for this year level.

Student expectations

Focus on developing cultural understanding, listening and speaking skills in Italian. Students will be expected to:

  • Review work covered in class
  • Learn new words and expressions
  • Practice speaking
  • Research
  • Revision for tests
  • Look at mistakes and practice rewriting the answers correctly.
