Drama Curricular

Drama classes provide students with a creative outlet, an opportunity for personal growth and a chance to improve their self confidence, communication, interpersonal and performance skills. Drama enables both individuals and groups to reflect, explore, shape and symbolically represent ideas, emotions, experiences and consequences in order to define their identity in the context of their immediate surroundings and the broader society in which we live.

In Year 7 and Year 8 students learn skills of drama focussing on mime, improvisation and script work.

In Year 9 students can elect to study Drama Skills or Musical Theatre culminating in public performances. Musical Theatre students have performed such musicals as Grease, Annie, Chicago, The Wiz, Fame and Rocky Horror in recent years.

In Year 10 students can choose to study Drama for a semester (Year 10 Drama A) or for the whole year (Year 10 Drama B), which prepares them for Drama in Year 11. Students perform two Drama Nights which showcase their devising and script interpretation skills.

In Year 11 and Year 12 students can choose to study Drama as an ATAR subject. Students in Year 12 perform in the scripted Year 12 Drama Night. Throughout the year the students also attend professional theatre productions. In the Term 1 holidays Year 12 students do workshops with the Melbourne Theatre Company on a tour to Melbourne. There they work with actors and directors on voice and rhythm, movement and performance making. They also attend productions in the evening and engage in forums with the casts. They also attend the Comedy Festival.

Drama Co-Curricular

  • The annual Musical production is a major event in the calendar that involves over 140 students on stage, in the back stage crew, make up, hair, the band, lighting, sound
  • Annual Year 8/9 Drama Production
  • Annual Theatre Sports competition
  • Year 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 Drama Nights

Students who would like to work back stage can be trained in lighting and sound and then work on the various productions during the course of the year.
