John XXIII College Parents' Association
What is the Parents' Association?
All parents and guardians of students attending the College are deemed members of the John XXIII College Parents' Association; the equivalent of the Parent and Friends Associations in other schools.
The Parents' Association makes an important contribution to the development of the College's community spirit and provides essential pastoral and financial support.
The Parents' Association Meetings are held in Week Five each term.
The dates for 2019 are:
Term 1: Tuesday 5 March 2019
Term 2: Monday 27 May 2019
Term 3: Wednesday 21 August 2019
Term 4: Monday 11 November 2019 (Meeting and AGM)
The meetings are held at 7:00pm in the Thomas More Exhibition Centre at the College. They are open to all staff and parents / guardians of students at John XXIII College to raise and discuss matters of common concern and interest. They are a great way to find out what is happening at the College, meet parents from other year groups and be involved in decision-making on proposed funding initiatives.
In order to make a worthwhile contribution to the development of facilities at John XXIII College, it is necessary for all parents to commit themselves to the activities of the Parents' Association.
The objective of the Parents' Association
The Parents' Association plays an integral role in many aspects of College life.
The main roles are in the areas of: Financial, Social (Parents' Association Liaison - PAL), Pastoral (Roncalli Care) and Education ('Inspire'). The main objective is to support the College by providing physical assistance, raising funds (such as through the parent levy) and promoting social interaction between the parents and guardians of students attending the College.
The overall aim of the Parents' Association
To provide an opportunity for parents to partner the College in the education and support of their children and to strengthen the values of the College community, based on the Ignatian tradition of:
- Seeking Justice - awareness of the needs of others and readiness to place one's talents at their service
- Personal concern for the whole life of each student
- Development of a broad liberal education
- Emphasis on critical thinking and effective communication
-
Striving for excellence
- A pervading philosophy with emphasis on actions rather than words
- Seeking out and doing what God is wanting people to do in their lives
