French Exchange 2015

On Saturday 7 February we had the pleasure of welcoming 31 students, their principal; Jean-Claude Narci, and two teachers; Ms Brigitte Roth and Mr Laurent Laval from our French exchange school, the Lycée Joffre, in Montpellier.

Since their arrival, our visitors have enjoyed an action-packed two weeks experiencing our Australian lifestyle both at school and with their host families. During their stay the group visited The Pinnacles, Caversham Wildlife Park, Fremantle, AQWA, Perth City and Rottnest where they got to enjoy our beautiful landscapes. At Rottnest they were joined by our students and together explored the island on bikes. A big thank you to the wonderful staff who made this possible; Ms Myers, Ms Valentine, Ms Watson, Ms O'Donnell, Mr Doug Watson and Ms Lucas.

Whilst at the College the exchange students attended classes with our students, cooking meat pies with Ms Marshall, enjoying an AFL workshop with Mr Haines and Mr Kowal, making boomerangs with Mr Deurloo, and exploring Australian music and idioms with Ms Lucas. They also conducted a science experiment with Ms Valentine and tried Aboriginal art with Ms Hoy. Ms O'Connor introduced them to Australian History and Ms Russo gave a lesson on Australian English and Culture through cinema. The highlight for French group was their surfing lesson. Thank you for Mr Haines for organising it.

Our Year 7-12 French classes were delighted to welcome our French visitors into their lessons and make the most of the opportunity to develop their French speaking skills and understanding of French culture. The Year 12 French class benefited from watching presentations prepared by our visitors on a range of topics relating to their ATAR course.

A big thank you to our fantastic students who made our visitors feel so welcome at the College, to all staff who assisted with the excursions and in-school activities during the exchange program and to our host families, without whom the exchange would not be possible. Merci beaucoup for your wonderful generosity and support.

The outstanding success of the 2015 Lycée Joffre Exchange could not have occurred without the meticulous planning, extra-ordinary energy and hard work of Mrs Carmelina Grassi and Mrs Desa Lucas. Bien Fait.

We wish our French visitors a safe journey home and look forward to continuing our positive relationship in the future.
Bon Voyage!
