Around the Primary

Dear Parents

There were smiles all round this morning when the Year 4G students were on the stage in Roncalli Hall. Thank you to Ms O'Connor and the 'fantastic fours' for a very well prepared and entertaining assembly item.

Congratulations to all the students who received a certificate.

Last Friday it was World Teacher's Day and we would like to thank all those parents who took the time out of your busy lives to send in a flower, a card, a note, a cupcake or homemade biscuit or simply popped your head in to the classroom to say 'thank you' to our teachers - well done and a sincere THANK YOU! Your children watch and hear everything you do and when they see you showing gratefulness and thoughtfulness it is powerful modelling for their own lives.

Thanks also to all those parents who provided the delicious treats for the staff morning tea today.

We are currently in the final process of organizing staff for 2015. Mrs Gardner will be taking a year's leave and Miss Joyce will be acting Assistant Principal in her absence and Mrs Anne Murphy will be joining our team as our new Primary Counsellor.

Our PP-Year 2 students will be making a big splash by taking part in swimming lessons from 24th November until Friday 5th December. At the same time, we are also very excited by the extension of the Primary Sport's program to include after-school swimming training this term for students in Years 3, 4 and 5. Under the guidance of qualified coaches from Uniswim and Mr Alderman, our students will have had the opportunity to display their skills in the College pool from next Wednesday 12th November.

Just a reminder, all Year 4 parents are invited to join us for an information session on iPads and ICT in education on Wednesday 12th November at 9am or 2pm. This presentation will cover the following:

  • iPad set up for classroom use (creating folders, managing settings, ICT policy)
  • Where to find the primary educational Apps list - what your child needs to have
  • Helpful guidelines for parenting in a digital age

The iPad has proven to be a valuable addition to learning tools available in the Primary School and we hope all Year 4 parents will be able to come along.

Enjoy the weekend!

Kind regards,

Antoinette De Pinto
Head of Primary

To ensure a quick and efficient flow of traffic through the 'loop', families with Junior Primary children are requested to display their 'drive thru surname cards' on their sun-visors or on the dashboard of their vehicle. If you need a new or extra surname card for a second vehicle, please email Cath Philpot on philpot.catherine@johnxxiii.edu.au

Presentation Night

This year our Presentation Night will take place in the St Louis Centre on Wednesday 3rd December at 7pm. As this is an important community event for our College all students from Years 5 and 6 are expected to attend. Our Year 5 students will also be providing some special musical entertainment.
