Around the Primary

Dear Parents,

The children from Kindergarten, Pre Primary, Year 1 and Year 2 thoroughly enjoyed the Sports Carnival yesterday. All of our young competitors tried so hard and were so proud to display their physical skills and talents to their friends and family. This certainly was also a wonderful way for us to build community and we thank the many parents and grandparents who came along to support this event. Special thanks to Mr Alderman who planned and coordinated the Carnival. Also, a big thank you to all the staff, parent helpers and Year 6 House Captains who were involved on the day.

On Wednesday, our Year 6 students joined many other students for the Year 7 Orientation Day. They have been looking forward to this day since the beginning of the term and it provided a great opportunity for them to experience a day in the life of a Secondary student. It was fantastic to see our students networking with students from other schools.

This morning, Roncalli Hall was filled to capacity for the Year One Assembly. Our delightful Year One's have been learning all about narratives and were transformed into characters from the book 'Room on the Broom' with their amazing costumes. They proudly recited lines and also sang and acted in front of a captive audience. A big thank you to Miss Ilich, Miss Saraco and Miss Rushmere for preparing the children so well for their debut on the big stage. Also, congratulations to all the amazing students who received a certificate.

Today is World Teacher's Day and on your behalf I congratulate our wonderful staff who all contribute so generously in their various roles in the John XXIII community. We are so fortunate to have such a creative, talented and hard working group of staff here at the College who quietly and efficiently get about their work in so many ways seen and unseen, and help our students to grow into young people filled with competence, conscience and compassion. Special thanks to the parent community for providing a lovely morning tea for the staff to enjoy at recess.

Our teachers have begun working on the composition of class lists for 2017. I would like to take this opportunity to remind parents that all teachers at John XXIII College are professional and of an excellent standard. Children will receive a high quality of education no matter which class they are placed in for the new school year. We spend a lot of time and give great consideration to the placement of children. Consideration for placement is made using the following criteria:

  • academic ability
  • friendships
  • gender balance
  • behaviour
  • special needs

Every effort is made to place children where it is felt they will have the greatest opportunity to succeed. I ask you to trust that the class your child is going to next year is one in which they will thrive. Parents are welcome to contact me about their child's placement if they have any specific concerns. Parents can feel confident that their children will always be in good hands and receive an excellent education.

On Friday 4 November, the Year 4G students will be leading our Primary Mass. All parents and friends are invited to join with us.

Kind regards

Antoinette De Pinto
