Visual Arts Exhibition

Opening Night

The annual College Visual Arts Exhibition opening night took place on Tuesday 18 October, showcasing and recognising the magnificent artwork of our talented young artists. Frances Danckert (Class 2012) formally opened the exhibition, speaking passionately and eloquently about her career as a set and costume designer and her experience as a practising artist.

Frances Danckert with Arts Staff, Lauren Truscott, Louise Hoy and Kiri Moore.

The stars of the show, our graduating Year 12 ATAR Visual Arts students, impressed the crowd with their refined, innovative and thought-provoking artworks and are commended for their hard work this year.

College Visual Arts Captain, Peta Kennare, spoke beautifully on behalf of her peers-

"I'd like to thank and congratulate all the Year Twelves, who made the Visual Arts course so enjoyable. We've all put in a lot of late nights but it's paid off because you're all amazing artists. I feel extremely fortunate to have been surrounded by such talented, humble and supportive girls. I also congratulate the younger artists; seeing the quality of the pieces on display, it's clear that there is great talent here. I look forward to returning in the years to come. The biggest thank you goes to the Art Department who have provided us with so much encouragement, guidance, help and even the occasional biscuit or chocolate; the fundamentals of any learning environment. Most people know that art is time consuming and requires discipline, but something that artists know is that it is powerful. In the words of Bertolt Brecht- Art is not a mirror held up to reality, but a hammer with which to shape it".

We also recognised five award winners on the night for their outstanding artworks and the dedication they have shown to their Art studies this year:

The Sister Theresa Elliott Encouragement Award: Ella Naismith (Year 7)

The Arlene Nedeljkovic 'Rising Star' Award: Laura Trapnell (Year 10)

The Sister Leonie Peterson Award for Art with a Christian Theme: Peta Kennare (Year 12)

The Principal's Award: Mairead Chapman (Year 12)

The Teacher's Choice Award: Lauren Jones (Year 12)

Congratulations to all of our wonderful Art students and we look forward to seeing more amazing artwork from you all in 2017.
