Around the Primary

Dear Parents,

Today we celebrated the Feast of St Ignatius with a whole school Prayer Assembly. At John XXIII we recognise the great tradition of Ignatian Education started by Ignatius and his early companions. This feast day comes at the end of our first week of Founders' Time which is that special time in our calendar when we recognise and celebrate our College founders, St Ignatius, Mary Ward and Pope Saint John XXIII.

The celebration of John XXIII College Day is scheduled for Friday 14th August. It is one of the special occasions during the year when the entire student body are involved in community celebrations.

The day will begin as follows with a College Mass at 9am in the St Louis Sports Centre. This will be following by a 'mini-fete' organised by our Year 5 and 6 students. The 'Mini-Fete' which will consist of various games and food novelties. On this day our normal nutrition guidelines are relaxed but parents may like to provide guidelines on the day for their individual children. PrePrimary and Year 1 students will be accompanied to the mini-fete by a buddy under the direction of their teacher.

While it is always at a parent's discretion, we recommend the following guidelines for spending money.

PrePrimary to Year 1 $2.50 ( 5 x 50 cent coins) Year 2 - 6 $5 - $10

All students are required to wear their sports uniform and House shirt for the day. Parents are required to provide snacks for morning tea. Students are very welcome to pre-order a sausage sizzle (see separate form) or they can bring their own lunch from home.

Let's pray for fine weather on the day and that a magnificent celebratory spirit will be present on John XXIII Day.

Our Year 3-6 Cross Country Carnival was a huge success on Thursday afternoon. Many of the students have been attending morning training sessions since last term and their commitment to training has certainly paid off. It was very pleasing to see many students taking up the challenge of running in the long course. Well done to all the students who gave it their all and achieved their personal best. Congratulations to all our winners for 2015 - a magnificent effort!

A big thank you to Glenn Mitchell for announcing the races - his wonderful commentary kept the crowd well-informed of events. A big thank you to Mr Alderman for organising the carnival and ensuring all students were well-prepared and eager to run. A great time was had by all!

Today we farewell and thank Mrs Philpot for her wonderful contributions to the College. Cath will be greatly missed by all the Primary community and we wish her every happiness with her future endeavours.

Kind Regards,
Antoinette De Pinto
Head of Primary
