Rowing News

We had a fantastic regatta on Saturday, despite the weather our JTC girls soldiered on! We didn't come out with a win, but raced very competitively in our quads, as the singles were cancelled. Our next regatta is on the 7th of June!

Please read the following information regarding our JTC regatta on the 14th of June!

Dear Rowing Families

John XXII College Rowing Club is hosting the IGSSA regatta on Saturday the 14th June at Champion Lakes. To ensure the success of the day, we are requesting the following assistance from all families in the rowing club.

We will be running a raffle on the day and ask everyone to deliver a gourmet hamper item or two to the main admin building by the morning of Friday June 13.

Volunteers are urgently required to assist with the setup, serving morning tea, BBQs, selling cakes at the cake stall and packing away. Remember, it's a great way for students to clock up a few community service hours!

To ensure the time slot which will suit you, please reply ASAP to:

Nurse or Doctor: 8:00 - 11:00
Morning tea (serving): 7:00 - 9:30 or 9:30 - 11:30
BBQs: 7:00 - 9:30 or 9:30 - 11:30
Clean up: 11.30 - 12.30
Cake Stall/Raffle: 7:30 - 9:30 or 9:30 - 11:30
Morning tea (cooking): In your own home, to be dropped off Friday or early Saturday
(Details follow)

Food, glorious food!

As host school, we will be providing morning tea for rowers, officials and spectators. This is a major fundraiser for the club, so we are asking a few cooks from our community to assist. We will be making soup, mini frittatas, cupcakes, brownies, bircher muesli and some bickies. In the interests of allergy awareness, recipes will be supplied to all our 'cooks' so we can display a list of ingredients with everything we sell. No need to be a Masterchef - recipes will be fail-proof and easy to follow! Email direct if you'd like to help with this.

We will also be running the (now legendary) John XXIII Regatta Cake Stall. JTC Rowing Club have earned a reputation for the quality of our cake stall and in past years this has been a key component of our fundraising success on the day. Again, we're asking all rowing families, present and past, to show their support by providing something scrumptious for us to sell.

Each 2014 rower will receive a cake box in the coming weeks. Those keen to bake up a storm can collect extra cake boxes from main admin.

1. Fold the cake box so that the JTC Rowing sticker is facing the front.

2. Fill it with any home baked goody you fancy but be mindful of a number of things:

  • We generally aim to price everything at $12 or $15.
  • There are no refrigeration facilities for these boxes, so no fresh cream or highly perishable ingredients please.
  • To assist those with allergies, please write "CONTAINS NUTS" or "GLUTEN FREE" in red marker on the box if applicable.

3. Label your box in blue or black marker and list the ingredients so that people know exactly what they're getting.

4. Deliver your goodies to one of the following drop-off locations:

A) Main admin, Friday June 13 between 8am and 3pm.

B) Marie's house, 54 Webster St Nedlands, Friday June 13 after 4:30 pm.

C) Direct to the stall, Saturday June 14 before 9am.

If you know other rowing families in your area, why not set up a "cake pool" so that only one person needs to make the trip?

Please contact Marie O'Rourke on with any cake stall or morning tea queries.

Also, please consider the following regarding the AGM:

Dear Rowing Community

The John XXIII Rowing Club will be holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 16th June 2014. A key aspect of the AGM is the election of committee members and I ask that you take a moment to consider becoming involved to ensure the ongoing success of the club.

We are in a position where quite a few of the members of the current committee have children who are in Year 11 or 12 and coming to the end of their rowing days at JTC and as a consequence several of our committee members are retiring.

The protocol for the AGM is that all positions are declared open for nominations. Thankfully, those retiring from the key positions are willing to be involved for a period of time to support the new committee members to ensure a smooth and complete handover.

In addition to the roles of President, Secretary, Treasurer and Registrar, we require several committee members who are willing to assist with coordinating our two regattas and boat fundraising activities.

We also have a new role of 'History Curator', to help us bring together the history and community of John XXIII Rowing over the past 21 years.

As with all volunteer committees, many hands make light work and a willingness to help is the only criteria for being a committee member.

If you wish to nominate for either a position or just to assist on the committee please send an email to our secretary Sue Hyde ( and attend the AGM on 16th June 2014 at the Circle of Friends Café at JTC. If you have any questions please feel free to contact either myself or Sue.

It is a great club and we look forward to your involvement in continuing its role in our school community.
