Head of Primary

Over the past two weeks student/parent/teacher interviews have been held in the primary school. I would like to thank all the staff for the work they put into preparing for these interviews. I would encourage all parents to follow up these interviews with regular conversations with teachers regarding their child's progress. Regular conversations are useful to ascertain how the students are progressing throughout the course of the year.

Yesterday our Year 6 Basketball teams participated in the interschool basketball carnival at Willetton Basket Centre. Congratulations to all of the students who participated so enthusiastically. Thank you to Mr Alderman and Mrs Purcell who helped out in an official capacity at the carnival. I would also like to thank those parents who came along to support the endeavours of our students.

This week many classes have had the opportunity to participate in an iPad workshop and use our new iPads. There were squeals of excitement from the children and many happy staff who got to experiment with this technology. All remaining classes will participate in a workshop next week. A big thank you to Miss Scharf for her work in arranging these workshops for the primary school.

The first two days back next term, the 23rd and 24th of April are pupil free days. The first of these days will be a regional professional development day. The staff from John XXIII will be joining with other schools in our region to explore the Australian Curriculum. The second of these days will be used by the staff back here at the College to enable the staff to participate in training about the usage of iPads in the primary classroom. A reminder that Wednesday 25th April is ANZAC day and as such, is a public holiday. School for the students will begin on Thursday 26th April.

Next week, we will be focusing on Holy Week. On Monday 2nd April, the students will be leading us in a liturgy to remind us of the events that took place on Palm Sunday. The Palm Sunday Liturgy will take place in the amphitheatre at 9am. On Tuesday 3rd April at 9am the students will re-enact the events of the Last Supper in the chapel. Our final Easter reflection will be on Wednesday at 9am in the Exhibition Centre. All parents and friends of our community are invited to attend all of these liturgies.

Congratulations to the Year 3 students who completed their First Reconciliation this week. Parents are the most important faith educators of their children and with the support of the College and parishes we can support the children on their faith journey. Many thanks to Fr Gaetan, Mrs Vicoli, Mrs Young and Mrs Distante for preparing the children for this important Sacrament.

Finally, a big thank you to Miss Nish and the students from 4G for organising today's assembly. Each student spoke clearly and confidently about objects that are special to them. Well done to our fantastic fours!

Enjoy the Holidays!

Kind regards
