Curtin University
On Monday this week I was invited to Curtin University by Professor of Design, Dr Christopher Crouch. Dr Crouch and I discussed the possibility of a joint Curtin University/John XXlll College collaboration in design and technology. We are considering both professional development for design and technology teachers and opportunities for student extension. Dr Crouch also invited me to submit a paper for an international conference to be held next year at Curtin. I will be writing about Ignatian spirituality and the environment in relation to the College.
Cultural Decoding at Notre Dame - 2013 Extension for Year 12 students
Last year John XXlll College and Notre Dame University were delighted to offer a new and innovative program that enlivened and stimulated the minds of gifted and talented students at the beginning of Year 12. The students, parents and teachers involved declared it to be very successful. The students particularly enjoyed the opportunity to interact with peers who were interested in the same kind of ideas. They also enjoyed the wonderful food the University provided. In 2013 the program will be held over four days, Tuesday 15 to Friday 18 January. Current Year 11 students are invited to be a part of this wonderful experience.
Academic staff from the Schools of Philosophy and Theology, Arts, Science, Law and the Library will be presenting students with intellectual and spiritual material that will challenge their gifts through archaeology, local history, iconography, philosophy, art history, theology, legal history, politics, theatre and a library quest using old and new technology. They will pursue philosophical notions that ask questions such as; "What kind of society constructs a prison as their first building?" They will decode who we are today through exploring ideas and life in detail from our history.
Parents are invited to attend the final session where students are presented with a certificate of completion. Places in the program are limited, so Year 11 students need to register as soon as possible. Successful registration will require the form being completed in full with payment being made to the University. This is a very exciting opportunity. Interested students can get the form from me or email me and I can send you the form. Cultural Decoding Brochure
