Around the Primary
Dear Parents,
Words fall short when it comes to how wonderful it was to see so many delicious home-made cakes, slices, muffins and other treats, being brought to the College for the Monster Cake Stall last Friday. A total of $1,339.25 was raised, so bravo everyone! A fabulous effort by our Year 6 students and a great fundraising effort for Project Compassion! A big thank you to all the Year 6 Parents for supporting this event.
Our House Day today was a great success and enjoyed by all of the Houses. Our special thanks to Fr Joseph Sobb SJ for celebrating Mass with us. Special thanks to Ms Allen for her wonderful preparation of this lovely liturgy. It was great to see the children looking so proud in their house shirts in the Chapel and participating with such reverence. Thanks to staff and students for your participation - there were plenty of smiles all round! A sincere thank you to all the parents that came along and cooked our delicious lunch.
Thank you to Mrs Fry, Sr Marg Finlay (Loreto Sister), Ms Watson (Director of Mission), Mr Downie (Assistant Deputy Principal Year 9), Mrs Gingell (Alumni) and Mr Owen (Assistant Deputy Principal Year 8), for their entertaining and informative presentations to the six houses. The students thoroughly enjoyed learning more about their House they belong to. Our guest speakers share many interesting facts, such as:
- Ward - Mary Ward founded the Loreto Sisters.
- Loreto - The Loreto Sisters opened their first school for Perth girls in 1897.
- Koolyangarra - Is an aboriginal word meaning meeting place of happy children.
- Loyola - Is named for St Ignatius Loyola, Founder of the Jesuits.
- St Louis - The house motto is 'I strive for higher things'.
- Campion - Named after the English Jesuit, St Edmund Campion. The motto for Campion House is 'Faith and Courage'.

As Holy Week is in the first week of the school holidays this year, the students will be participating in Holy Week reflections during the last week of term to help them gain a true sense of meaning of Easter. All parents are welcome to attend these reflections.

As advertised in previous newsletters, our celebrations for the Canonisation of Pope John XXIII will take place on Sunday April 27th. Let's celebrate in Italian style by wearing red, white and/or green to the Carnivale. All families are invited to come along to the Mass at 4.30 pm then stay for the picnic. We will have a great band to keep everyone entertained until the fireworks at 7.30pm. This promises to be an amazing John XXIII event.
Kind Regards
Antoinette De Pinto
Head of Primary
Congratulations to Georgia Gourdis (3B) who celebrated her Baptism at St Cecelia's Parish last Saturday.
