Ignatian Education Conference

In the first week of the holidays I travelled to Sydney to give a keynote speech at the Ignation Education Conference at St Ignatius' College, Riverview. The theme of the conference was 'Addressing Depth Across the Curriculum'. It was a profound experience to work with educators from Jesuit schools across Australia to consider how one might include Ignatian Principles in our teaching in order to educate the whole person. We discussed National Curriculum as well as listening to delegates present examples of best Ignatian principles from their schools. I was inspired by the wonderful work being done in our schools and felt buoyed by the support of this extensive network. Delegates also requested copies of our Year 8 Philosophy Course; it was seen as a good example of dealing with the subject matter of the Conference, 'depth'. I also discussed sending a team of debaters from our College to the Jesuit Carnival in Sydney next year and started the process of including Mock Trials in the Carnival.

Mock Trials

Team Compassion will go to trial in the semi-finals against Wesley College on 9 August. All team members are welcome to work in the preparation for the trial and to attend on the evening. In order to fully prepare our semi-final team we have two coaches available for the students. I expect the trial on 9 August will be very exciting. Parents are also very welcome to come on the night. The trial begins at 6pm and is usually finished by 8pm.
