Another busy week for Magis

Media Club

This week Media Club students met with their new Media Captains, Reilly Thomas and Carrie Power, to plan the AV program for the College Presentation Night on 28 November. Students have a big task to prepare this important event. We all look forward to seeing the results on the night. In the meantime the John XXlll College community may enjoy the Club's Daily Notices for this week on:

Students filmed this after school on Tuesday and edited at home to post the Notices on Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday night William Paparo, Alex King and Sophie Minissale represented the College at the Hale School Philosothon. They contemplated happiness, the nature of being human, morality and responsibility for others with more than 100 students from other schools. It was an intense and interesting evening. At the Award Ceremony I gave out the John XXlll College Philosophy Essay Prize. This year I was overwhelmed by the entries in the competition. It is gratifying so many young people have an interest in Philosophy. While at Hale I also spoke about the John XXlll College/Art Gallery of Western Australia 2013 Primary Philosothon. Many schools have expressed interest in sending teams next year. This will be a wonderful opportunity for gifted primary students.

Edith Cowan University

On Thursday afternoon I had a meeting with Clive Barstow, Dean of Communications and the Arts at ECU. We discussed the possibility of initiating a Film and Media Production Course for secondary students at ECU. Clive showed me over the film and television studios and also the new multi-media exhibition space in the faculty. The University is very interested in setting up a course for students in Year 11, running after final examinations in November. They envisage a course encompassing film theory, television production, broadcasting, animation and multi-media. Thus my suggestion was greeted with great enthusiasm and we can look forward to our students being offered another wonderful learning opportunity.

University of Western Australia

On Friday afternoon I had a series of meetings at UWA to discuss the architecture studio we coordinate with the University through ALVA in January. We are looking at how we might include students from disadvantaged schools in the studio, something that is close to the heart of our John XXlll College community. I presented details of this wonderful opportunity to the Year 11 Assembly in the morning. I hope many of our young people enrol. If there are any queries please contact me.
