Week 2 has been busy for Magis with a special joint Media Club and Philosophy Club meeting on Wednesday to farewell our Year 12 members. Philosophy Club also met on Friday for the usual intense discussion. Magimation is a vibrant group of Year 7 enthusiasts working with Mrs Truscott in the Library every Friday lunch time. It will be interesting to see what this dynamic group produces. Our Astronomy Club is once again star-gazing on clear nights. Any interested student should see Mr Mazur.

Work continued this week on the Magis extension for 29 October. Students will have a day of creative problem solving and ethical discussion. They will explore the nature of 'truth' and what that might mean. I spent some very early hours at Newman College working on this and I expect our students to have a very challenging day. Over the past 12 months Year 9 students Sophie Minissale and Mahala Longley have been attending a series of Creative Writing Workshops at the Fremantle Arts Centre. They attend their last one for the year on Monday 28 October. They will be able to continue these workshops as they go into Year 10 next year. This is a wonderful opportunity for gifted young writers.

After the Year 11 exams, on November 26 and 27, Amanda Betts will be working with a small group of our Year 11 students. She is an exciting local writer with a recent publication, Zac and Mia, and is also a teacher. Our students will have a special time working with this engaging author. Notre Dame University is again running the Cultural DeCoding week in January. This is a brilliant opportunity for students going into Year 12 in 2014. If you have any queries about this program please contact me and I am happy to discuss it.
