Around the Primary
Dear Parents,
The fourth and final term for 2014 has begun with great gusto. Last Friday afternoon we hosted our annual Grandparents' picnic. It was wonderful to see so many grandparents and other special guests visiting the classrooms, enjoying the entertainment and sharing lunch with the children. A great time was definitely had by all!
Congratulations to all the students who received merit awards at today's assembly. A big thank you to Miss Figueira and Year 2G for their entertaining assembly item. The children were extremely enthusiastic about sharing their learning about Dr Seuss. Through the words of this wonderful author, the Year 2's reminded us:
Class Lists 2015
It is about this time of year when some parents start to wonder about who will be teaching their children next year. Now, while I understand that parents might be curious, I would like to take this opportunity to remind parents that all teachers at John XXIII College are professional and of an excellent standard. Children will receive a high quality of education no matter which class they are placed in for the new school year. We spend a lot of time and give great consideration to the placement of children. Consideration for placement is made using the following criteria:
Every effort is made to place children where it is felt they will have the greatest opportunity to succeed. I ask you to trust that the class your child is going to next year is one in which they will thrive. Parents are welcome to contact me about their child's placement however; specific requests will not be guaranteed. Parents can feel confident that their children will always be in good hands and receive a quality education.
Art Exhibition
Once again we are so proud to have Primary Art included in the College Art Exhibition. Special thanks to Mrs Roche (Primary Art Specialist) for all her hard work. Tomorrow, 25th October is the final day to view the fabulous works of our Primary and Secondary students. Families and friends are welcome to come along to the Exhibition from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday.
Scitech Science Challenge Day
The Primary Interschool Science Team competed at the recent 'Scitech Challenge Day'. Our team consisting of Zoe Broderick, Jasmin Collins, Patrick Robson and Matthew Steinepreis performed admirably against more than 40 other teams and showed real ability in problem solving, higher order thinking and resilience in particular. Mrs Magee was very proud to share this experience with them as they were a credit to our school and themselves.
Junior Primary Athletics Carnival
Next Friday, 31st October, is our Junior Primary Athletics Carnival. Please take note of the information sent home today regarding starting times, order of event and housekeeping for the Carnival. Everyone is welcome to come along and support our young athletes.
Year 4 Parent iPad Meeting
In preparation for next year and as part of our ongoing commitment to Information Technology, we invite all Year 4 parents to join us for an information session on iPads and ICT in education. The iPad has proven to be a valuable addition to learning tools available in the Primary School. We also recognise the importance in educating students on digital citizenship at home and at school. We hope all Year 4 parents will be able to attend this important talk on Wednesday 12th November at 9am or 2pm. More information will follow.
Presentation Night
This year our Presentation Night will take place in the St Louis Centre on Wednesday 3rd December at 7pm. As this is an important community event for our College all students from Years 5 and 6 are expected to attend. Our Year 5 students will also be providing some musical entertainment. Please save the date - more information will follow.
Farewell to Year 12's
On Tuesday morning our Primary students formed a guard of honour to farewell our Year 12 students. The Year 5 and 6 students also made each graduating student a home-made card. We wish the Year 12 students every success in their upcoming exams and also a bright future filled with many blessings.
Kind regards,
Antoinette De Pinto
