Boys and Girls Rowing Regatta Report

The John XXIII boys and girls rowing teams competed in a combined regatta at Canning Bridge, on Saturday 18th February 2012.

It was a festive and slightly cooler morning by the river together with all of our dedicated rowers, parents and spectators. Feeling the rower's energy while observing them preparing themselves and the boats for the regatta set the scene for an awesome regatta.

Although all the girls have been training off-season in preparation of the Australian Rowing Championships in March, this was their first regatta of the year.

The first race of the day started with our Senior Girls Quad in fine form to achieve third place in a very competitive 2000m race. Fantastic accomplishment girls!

Girls' Senior Quad:

(L-R) Cox: Kate Fletcher, Jemima Harding, Rhiaan Richards,
Sophie Holt and Eleanor Weber.

Our Year boys 10A Quad competed in the First Senior Quad which is a 1000m event open to all Senior Quad crews ranging from years 10-12. Our boys surged forward to row to third position trailing the first crew by just 7 seconds - an awesome achievement!

The adrenalin kept pumping and the Year 10A Quad powered on to astound us yet again with an amazing win in the their Year 10A Quad race. This is their third consecutive win this season in the Year 10 Quad race.

Winning Year 10 Quad:

(L-R) (Cox) Alex King, Matt Tugwell-Wootton, Patrick Boere,
Conor Corless, Lincoln McLean

Our dedicated boys Senior VIII's all competed against eight other schools with incredible endurance and desire to row a distance of 1000m. The Year 9 boys are experiencing their first season of competition and all the Year 9 Quads showed remarkable improvement at this regatta.

Our Girls' Senior VIII looked magnificent as they rowed towards the finish line! This was the first time the crew has rowed and competed in a 2000m race as a VIII and can be commended for their enthusiasm and determination.
