Magis News

Term 4 is a time of change in the College as our Year 12 students graduate. We farewell our 2015 Magis Scholar, Owen Burke and wish Owen and the class of 2015 all the very best for their future. I am delighted to welcome Sophie Minissale as our 2016 Magis Scholar.

In Term 4 we take on some new activities through Magis. Students going on Space Camp in 2016 will begin a series of workshops with students from Corpus Christi College to prepare for their trip. We also hope they will attend Astronomy Club events when they are scheduled. Year 10 students who enjoyed the Atticus Finch Justice Award Speech will be challenged by a short series of debates. Students need to watch notices in SEQTA for further information. Magis Productions has begun planning tutorials in various media in preparation for a variety of projects they have planned for 2016. This group have also started work on the audio-visuals for Presentation Night. Year 12 students Tim Bonser and Daniel Paparo will run a tutorial in the Library to effectively 'hand-over' their knowledge to younger students.

Our audio-engineering students have been busy with a variety of College events and have also been commissioned to provide the audio for some Alumni events. This has been a very successful workshop and we hope to offer it again in 2016. On 9 and 10 December 10 students from the College will be invited to join gifted students from Newman and Corpus Christi Colleges to work on a two day exploration of "landscape". We will explore what we mean by "landscape" through digital imagery and our imaginations before spending a day at Naturescape looking at Australian "landscape" through science and play. This is an exciting opportunity for our Magis students to meet other gifted students and look at all the different ways that "landscape" is important to us.
