Around the Primary

Dear Parents

It is hard to believe we are now at the end of Week 5 of Term 3 and the next five weeks are going to be just as busy. Our next Assembly is on Friday 28 August and our Year One students are getting very excited about performing on the big stage.

Preparations are also well underway for our Year Four Musical 'Cinderella and Rockerfella'. This performance will take place on 8 September at 7.00pm in Roncalli Hall. Tickets will be on sale from Thursday 27 August.

On Friday 4 September we are celebrating Father's Day with a special early morning Mass at 7.30am. All fathers or special father figures are invited to come along and sit with their children during our Liturgy and receive a special blessing. We hope all Dads will stay after Mass and share a muffin and hot drink and then visit the Primary classrooms. Everyone is welcome, however RSVPs would be appreciated for catering purposes. Please email Ms Denise Fudger in Administration.

Book Week begins next week. To launch this special week, students from Pre-Primary - Year 6 previewed the musical 'Shine a Light' to coincide with the Book Week theme. There are many more activities to follow such as the Book Fair in the Library, colouring-in competition and SRC lunch-time reading.

On Wednesday and Thursday we hosted an Interschool Chess Competition. Over 190 students from sixteen schools played in various divisions. Our two teams performed very well. The teams were:

Tom Kitchin (6G) - Captain
William Vardanega (6G)
Oliver Mitteregger (6B)
Hayden de Courtenay (6G)

Sarah Few (5B) - Captain
Xavier Smith (5B)
Jordan Smith (5G)
Zachary Skerratt (5G)

Special thanks to Mrs Magee and our Year 11 Coach Sahil Parekh (Y11CM) for assisting with the preparations.

Kind Regards,
Antoinette De Pinto
Head of Primary

Last Thursday, 13 August our students participated in the IPSHA Co-Educational Cross Country Carnival at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School. Despite some early light showers, the weather was terrific for the Carnival. Fifty eight students were selected to compete and the performance of our runners was very pleasing. Whilst we had outstanding top 10 finishes, it was fantastic to see the overall depth of our competitors. For most races there were up to 80 runners from 11 schools. Our College generally had 8 competitors and most of the students finished in the top 30 in the different grade levels. Special thanks to our three officials Ms Ruth O'Donnell, Mrs Clare Magee & Ashlee Hardisty (Year 11 Instep student) for all their hard work on the day.

A huge congratulations to the following outstanding competitors for finishing in the top 10 for their race and on receiving their special certificates:-

Year 3 Girls (1500m) Tenley Burton (5th Place), Kate Beament (7th Place), Rebecca Litic (10th Place)
Year 3 Boys (1500m) Zachary Morphett (5th Place), Aiden Kavanagh (7th Place)
Year 4 Girls (1500m) Elizabeth Edwards (8th Place)
Year 4 Boys (1500m) Alex Petsos (3rd Place)
Year 6 Girls (2500m) Holly Cannon (2nd Place), Rosa Defrancesco (6th Place), Claudia Clyne (9th Place)
Year 6 Boys (2500m) Thomas Kitchen (7th Place), James Hodge (10th Place)

This Carnival brought to an end the cross country season. I would like to thank the wonderful parent support during this time, the Primary staff for assisting at the early morning training sessions and to all the enthusiastic, dedicated students who made a tremendous commitment to improve their long distance running and improve their level of fitness.

Kind Regards
John Alderman - Primary Sports Coordinator
