Plastic Free July
Next month John XXIII College are taking part in Plastic Free July. The challenge is quite simple. Attempt to consume no single-use plastic during July. Last night John XXIII College hosted a School debate night 'Is Plastic Fantastic?' to launch our campaign.
Debate night - 'Is Plastic Fantastic?'
Our Debating teams took on Scotch College to decide 'Is Plastic Fantastic?'
Topics were:
Year 8: 'School canteens should not sell items wrapped in plastic'
John XXIII College - affirmative (anti plastic)
Scotch College - negative (pro plastic)
John XXIII College Year 8's did a wonderful job, they displayed confidence and their delivery was highly impressive. However, Scotch College secured the victory by just one point.
Year 11: 'Plastic should never have been invented'
John XXIII College - negative (pro plastic)
Scotch College - affirmative (anti plastic)
John XXIII College Year 11's were outstanding against a very confident Scotch boys team, their research of the topic was inspiring and resulted in them coming away victorious on the night. John XXIII College won this debate by one point.
We were inspired by guest speakers from WA Earth Carers, and WA Waste Authority who have encouraged us all to take on the challenge of Plastic Free July. It was an exciting and thought-provoking debate night. Thank you to all our student debaters and guest speakers for all their efforts.
Let's all embrace the challenge for Plastic Free July!
