Around the Primary

This morning our Junior Primary classes gathered to celebrate Mass and to give thanks for all our teachers and teachers assistants and also to pray for parents, the first teachers in the children's lives. We thank Year 3B and Miss Gormley for preparing this beautiful liturgy.

It is hard to believe we only have three weeks until the end of the school year. The Booklists for 2016 are being sent home today and they will also be available for your convenience on the College website. It is important to note that teachers have requested that parents steer clear of novelty pencil cases, pens, pencils, erasers and sharpeners. All items need to be functional to use at school.

Yesterday Mrs Lauren Nish (e-Learning Specialist) and John Joosten (Director of ICT) hosted an iPad Information Session for Year 4 parents. They shared valuable information regarding the Australian Curriculum ICT Capabilities, our Mobile Technology Code of Conduct, Parent in a Digital Age. Further details can be found on the College Website.

On Thursday 3 December at 6:45pm we will be hosting an information session for parents with children starting Pre Primary in 2016. This evening is a great opportunity for parents to meet the teachers, familiarise themselves with the Pre Primary environment and to gain an insight into the children's learning program. It is hoped all Pre Primary parents will join us on the night.

This year the Year 6 Graduation celebrations begin with a 'Big Day-In' on Tuesday 8 December and conclude with a 'Big Day-Out' on Thursday 10 December. On Tuesday morning the students and their families will attend a Graduation Mass, followed by morning tea. After the morning formalities, the Graduates will share lunch by the College pool and then participate in fun and fitness activities in the pool! On Thursday the Year 6's will enjoy a big day out at Kings Park and 'Bounce'. I'm sure the students are going to thoroughly enjoy their final week of Primary School.

Kind regards
Antoinette De Pinto
Head of Primary

All parents are welcome to attend our 'EduDance' showcases on Monday 7 December at 2:15pm for all 'G' classes and Wednesday 9 December at 2:15pm for all 'B' classes.

Last week, Ethan Raykos (1B) and Daniel Edmondston (1G) were very fortunate to be selected to participate in the Milo In2Cricket demonstration at the WACA during the lunch break of the Test Match between Australia and New Zealand. The boys were very excited to play cricket in front of such a big crowd and were thrilled to be able to give Australian batsmen David Warner a 'high five' on their way off the oval.

PP - Year 2 swimming lessons commence next Monday, 23 November. All Enrolment Forms and Bus Permission Slip should now have been returned. Children who do not return these forms by Monday will not be able to participate in the lessons.

I have included a checklist that might be useful over the next couple of weeks

Checklist: 1. Swimming bag.
2. Bathers and the College Rashie.
3. Towel.
4. Cap (Optional).
5. Goggles (Optional).
6. Sunscreen.
7. Windcheater/tracksuit top (Optional).
8. Suitable footwear to wear on the bus, such as, a slip-on shoe or thongs.
Please clearly label all items

Parents are welcome to observe their child during the swimming lessons. However, as a courtesy to the instructor, please watch your child from a distance. Any issues or concerns with the swimming lessons need to be directed to the swim program instructor, Hamish Johnston (R.I.M.) or myself and not to your child's individual instructor.

Swimming Training

Once again we would like to offer swimming training for children in Years 3 - 6. The lessons will be run by UniSwim instructors and they will commence from next Monday 23 November. The training sessions will then occur every Monday and Wednesday afternoon until Wednesday 9 December from 3:30 - 4:30pm. Parents are expected to ensure their children are picked up by 4:30pm sharp!

The swimming training is offered to any Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 child who is a competent swimmer and would like specific instruction for extra speed, improved technique and endurance. The College pool is fairly deep and your child will need to be able to train in the deep water.

Please ensure your child has sunscreen, goggles and suitable swimming attire (no board shorts) for these training sessions.
