Year Twelve
Year 12s participated in Monday's swimming carnival with enthusiasm and skill, setting a fine example for the younger students in their willingness to be involved and cheer on their House mates. Some licence was taken in the staff/student relay however this was forgiven as the two staff teams were so clearly in front.
Students were motivated and genuinely appreciative of the 2011 students who returned to be congratulated on their wonderful achievements in the WACE last year. The High Achievers' Assembly was a positive reinforcement to all students of the value of education and the choices that are open to students who make the most of their talents and potential.
The first of the official school-leaving forms will be issued to students through Homeroom on Monday morning. The individualised "Student Permission Form 2012" from Curriculum Council asks for authorisation to release certain personal information. All questions are clear and both student and parent signature is required with a quick turnaround to bring the form back to the Homeroom teacher. Please do not bend or fold the form as it is scanned on its return.
As assessments get underway, and homework increases, I would like to remind Year 12s and their families of the importance of good nutrition and adequate sleep. Keeping these in good balance at this early stage of the year will help with staying well and keeping alert during the school day. Students can register with http://www.studentbox.com.au/ , an online community of Year 10-12 students which contains study tips, past WACE papers, health tips, competitions and advice with 2013 course selection.
It is not too early to begin careers counselling appointments with Mrs Watson, the College Careers Counsellor. Talking about plans for 2013 can help with setting realistic goals for the year and is also a big help with motivation.
