Around the Primary

Dear Parents,

We have had another great week at John XXIII. Lent began on Wednesday and all the children participated in an Ash Wednesday prayer Liturgy. The children were marked with ash on their foreheads and reminded to 'look' into their hearts and try to do something good during Lent, such as, using kind words and actions, saying a prayer each day, reading a story from the Bible. With the Lent season beginning you may want to download the Caritas Project Compassion Calendar. Just type in Project Compassion 2013 on the App Store and download.

A special thanks to parents for sending the children to school looking incredibly neat and tidy in the correct school and sports uniform. It is also wonderful to see the children wearing their uniform with pride. Your support in this matter is greatly appreciated and demonstrates your commitment to the school.

We also sincerely thank you for your co-operation and assistance with the afternoon drive-through and pick up at the 'loop'. Just a reminder, parents with children in Years 1-3, need to display their 'family name' sign on their wind-shield or on the back of your car sun-visor. This visual reminder helps the teacher to call for children quickly and greatly assists with the flow of traffic. If you have lost your name sign or need another one, please contact Cath Philpot in the office.

Teachers are currently busy preparing for Parent Information Sessions to be held in Week 4 at the following times:

Tuesday 26 February - Years 1 and 2 - 6 pm start

Tuesday 26 February - Year 3 - 7 pm start

Wednesday 27 February - Year 4 - 6pm start

Wednesday 27 February - Years 5 and 6 - 7 pm start

At these sessions teachers will run through class expectations and general information about the class program and how you as a parent can test your child's learning journey. These meetings will be held in classrooms.

Please mark these dates on your family's calendar as it is hoped at least one parent will be able to come along on the night.

Our First Primary Mass for 2013 will occur on Friday 1st March at 9 am. This Mass is kindly being prepared by Mrs Gardner, Ms Allen and Year 3G. Everyone is welcome to join us and meet Fr Wilson from Star of the Sea Parish, Cottesloe.

Kind regards

Antoinette De Pinto
Head of Primary

IMPORTANT REMINDER

All children receiving Sacraments this year must be enrolled through their Parish. Please contact your own Parish for information regarding First Reconciliation (Year 3), First Communion (Year 4), and Confirmation (Year 6).

The children had a delicious time making pancakes on Shrove Tuesday. Thank you to all our master chef parent volunteers.
