Around the Primary

Dear Parents

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn,
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We shall remember them.'

On Wednesday 11 November, Remembrance Day, the students participated in an Assembly or Prayer Service to remember the lives lost to war. Over the course of the day the teachers shared some important facts with their class about 'Remembrance Day,' which was originally called 'Armistice Day.' The students learnt that on this day of remembrance we give thanks and honour for the lives of those who have helped make our beautiful country a place of freedom and peace. Let us all strive to be people of peace in our thoughts, words and actions as Jesus has shown us.

As the sun rises and as it sets. We remember them.
When we enjoy our life and our freedom. We remember them.
When we witness courage and strength. We remember them.
When we feel protected and supported. We remember them.

This is a great time of the year, everyone is busy and excited and there's the prospect of holidays just in front of us. Most importantly, the Advent Season is nearly here and during this period we want to support those who will be finding it tough over the Christmas period. John XXIII College is once again supporting the St Vinnie's Christmas Appeal. Our aim is to donate food hampers to help individuals and families in need to experience the joys of Christmas. Donations can be left in the classroom or front office.

Enjoy the weekend!

Kind regards

Head of Primary

For the first time the IPSHA Touch Rugby was held at the College this week. Although Tranby College was the host school we were asked to be the venue for the event. The visiting teachers, parents and competitors were in awe at the magnificent grounds we have at the College. This is a wonderful reflection of the work of our Grounds & Maintenance Staff.

John XXIII College had 32 competitors made up of 16, Year 6 boys and 16, Year 6 girls. Our two mixed teams performed outstandingly well and were highly competitive throughout the day against the nine other schools. Our students did the College proud with their fantastic rugby skills, team work and their behaviour and sportsmanship. Congratulations and well done! A special thank you to our Year 6 teachers, Miss Graves and Mrs Goss for their fantastic assistance both at the Carnival and the games leading-up to the Carnival and a big thank you to the large number of parents who supported our competitors on the day.
