Around the Primary

Dear Parents

We have come to the end of the first full week of school and the students have settled well into their classes and routines. The Kindy children are enjoying exploring their new learning environment and the PrePrimary children have begun coming to school for the whole day! The rest of the primary school has been busy completing various literacy and numeracy activities and our students in Years 3-6 have had a wonderful time cooling off in the pool during their swimming lessons. At the same time, the builders have been working hard in the new Kindy and have made pleasing progress.

As you aware attendance at school is a critical factor in any child's academic success. Children should attend school every day, except in cases of illness or emergency. It is impossible to replace the learning that happens on any school day with make-up work. In addition, the teachers put a lot of time into the preparation of each lesson and children should be at school for the entire day. We do understand that children may need to attend medical appointments, speech therapy or occupational therapy sessions throughout the day. However, we are concerned that many children are attending extra tutoring during school time. We would appreciate if extra tutoring could occur out of school hours so that children do not miss valuable lessons on a regular basis.

Next Friday 17th February at 9am is our first Primary Mass and it is hoped that as many parents who are able to will come along to celebrate and give thanks. It is certainly a powerful and positive message for children to see parents participating in the Eucharist. We warmly welcome everyone to join us at this special prayer time.

Our Parent Information Meetings are one of the most important gatherings on the College calendar. We encourage at least one parent from each family to attend as teachers will outline important information for the year ahead including homework routines, general class procedures and expectations and updates about various special events, such as, camps or Sacraments. All Parent Information Meetings will take place in the classrooms.
