Year 11 Geography Fieldwork

Eight Year 11 Geography students took part in field work at Mundaring and Parkerville on Wednesday 6 May.

They were fortunate to have beautiful weather to enjoy while looking at the impact of bushfires on both natural and urban environments.

An educator from the Department of Parks and Wildlife instructed the students in fieldwork skills that enabled them to measure fuel loads and understand the importance of controlled burns in fire management.

They also studied an urban area that was burnt in January 2014, looking at fire behaviour, the impact of a bushfire on the community and how the community adapts to living in a high bushfire risk area.
