Language Study Tours 2013

Study Tour to Japan December 2012-January 2013

During the Summer Holidays Mrs Aghdasi, Mr. Edwards and Ms Weston lead 23 Year 11 and 12 students on the Study Tour to Japan for one month.

The Japan Study Tour group travelled from Fukuoka to Hiroshima, Miyajima, Kyoto, Tokyo and Kagoshima. The group stayed in traditional Japanese ryokan, travelled by shinkansen, ate Japanese food, sipped Japanese tea, wore kimono and slept on futon. A total immersion into Japanese life, culture and language. "Sugoi!" (Awesome)

The highlights of the tour included visiting the 'tori' on Miyajima Isalnd, laying paper cranes at the statue of Sadako in the Peace Park at Hiroshima, meeting up with our Language Assistants, Mika and Yumi, in Osaka for karaoke, Space Mountain, attending Joohoo High School and staying with wonderful host families in Kagoshima where we also visited the St Francis Xavier Memorial Park to pay our respects.

Ichiman no arigatoo (10, 000 x thank-you) to Aghdasi Sensei, Edwards Sensei and Weston Sensei for coordinating and leading the Study Tour to Japan.

Study Tour to Italy January 2013

A delightful group of 19 students currently in Year 11 and Year 12 spent 24 days on a Study Tour of Italy. It was a pleasure to see these beautiful adolescents grow before our eyes in every way; linguistically, culturally and personally. The tour included visiting museums, churches, staying with host families, and an audience with Pope Benedict XVI. The highlight for the group was the visit to Sotto Il Monte the birth place of Angelo Roncalli (Pope John XXIII). This visit was a first for our College and proved to be a moving and spiritual experience for many.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Ms Marietta Russo, Mr Paul Williams and Ms Caroline Watson for their generosity of spirit in accompanying the group. I would also like to extend my thanks to Mrs Anna Triscari who did a fantastic job in organising our itinerary.
