Around the Primary

Dear Parents

Preparations are now well underway for the new school year. Staff have been very busy working on new class lists, students' reports and booklists.

Last night the Early Companions Centre was filled to capacity with parents keen to know all about our Kindy program for 2016. Special thanks to Mrs Kounis, Mrs de Campe and Mrs Murphy for your valuable and informative presentations. I'm sure all the children and their parents are going to thoroughly enjoy their educational journey with us.

We now look forward to seeing all Year 4 Parents at our iPad information Session on Thursday 19 November at 9am or 2:15pm. This presentation will cover:

  • Setting up your child's mobile device (settings, managing apps, parent controls)
  • Year 5 app list 2016
  • iPad use in the Year 5 classroom
  • John XXIII College ICT policy and iPad Code of conduct
  • Helpful guidelines and resources for parenting in a digital age

Next year Mrs Shelley Morell will be enjoying twelve months leave from her busy responsibilities as Music Specialist. I'm sure Mrs Morell is going to enjoy this break from school routines and will treasure this special time with family and friends.

Mrs Liz Gardner has had a terrific time on leave this year and has been on many exciting adventures. After much discernment Mrs Gardner has decided to relinquish her position as Assistant Principal and will return to John XXIII in a teaching capacity. We thank Mrs Gardner for her wonderful contributions as a leader and look forward to welcoming her back in the new year.

The staff enjoyed many delicious treats at recess today. Special thanks to the parents for providing this morning tea - your efforts and generosity was greatly appreciated.

Kind regards
Antoinette De Pinto
Head of Primary

Super Scientists

On Tuesday, the Year Six students were joined once again by Siobhan Wills, our Primary Partner Scientist, to construct miniature wind turbines. These turbines were made by the students in small groups and required a lot of patience and attention to detail to construct. By placing a fan in front of them, students were able to measure the amount of electricity that was generated by their turbine. The results produced varied among each group and their findings will be presented in a Scientific Report. The students have also been researching renewable energy sources and it was fantastic for them to be able to create a personal source of electricity.

Our Year 6's hard at work constructing and testing their wind turbines.

Congratulations to Kai Jahn (5G) and Dominic Korn (5B) who have been selected to participate in a Futsal competition in Sydney. The boys are now training for at least 8 hours per week in preparation for this competition in January. We are very proud of the boys and look forward to hearing more about their Futsal results in the new year.

Congratulations to Judd Macdougall (5G) who has been selected in the 2016 Perth Glory U12 National Premier Leagues soccer team. Judd has been playing soccer since Pre Primary and his determination and efforts have certainly paid off. Well done Judd!
