Japanese Language Assistant - Host Family Wanted photo-6.jpg

For many years, the College has run a successful Japanese Language Assistant Program with associates from Kyoto Women's University. The Language Assistants work voluntarily and provide wonderful support in helping our students develop their communicative skills in Japanese and understand more about the culture and art of Japan.

Again, in 2015, we have a female Japanese Assistant called Nozomi Inoue joining us at the College. Nozomi is 19 years of age, from Osaka and is taking a 'gap year' from studying International Cultural Studies at Kansai University. Nozomi is very interested in learning about our way of life in Australia and loves sport, especially volleyball and athletics.

We are seeking assistance from a host family to provide Nozomi with accommodation and breakfast and dinner each day till the end of Term Two, or Term Three or Term Four. Your family will receive $600.00 per month as a contribution towards expenses.

If you are able to look after Nozomi for any term this year plus part of the holidays, then please email me at your earliest convenience for further details. glass.shane@johnxxiii.edu.au

Celebrating our Sister-City Relationship

The beautiful city of Vasto in Italy is Perth's sister city. Vasto is also the location of our sister school, Liceo Scientifico R. Mattioli. Every two years the John XXIII College Italian Study Tour visits the Liceo Scientifico R. Mattioli School in Vasto with the most recent visit in January 2015. Our relationship commenced in 2007 and both schools develop friendships through hosting and participating in shared school activities and excursions.

On Monday 16th February, Miss Antoinette De Pinto, Mr John Joosten and Mrs Melissa Polizzi, along with two Year 11 Italian and Study Tour students, Seve Russo and Therese Guerrera attended the 25th Sister -City Anniversary between Perth and Vasto at City Council House. The morning consisted of formal speeches between the Honourable Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi and the Mayor from Vasto, Luciano Lapenna. The Mayors spoke about the importance of the Sister-City relationship, the importance of sustaining the culture, language and connection between Vasto and Perth.

In September this year the students from Vasto will once again visit us and be hosted by John XXIII College. We look forward to meeting our Italian friends again.
