Around the Primary

Dear Parents

It is really wonderful to be back at school again. The holidays are always such a special time to step away from busy routines and for having some quality family time, however; it was lovely to be greeted on the first day by so many happy and excited students (and parents!) A special welcome to all our new families - we hope you have enjoyed your first week at the College. Please do not hesitate to pop into the front office if you need a hand or have a question.

The staff have been very busy over the last couple of weeks preparing their classrooms and programs for the term ahead. You will be pleased to know that they are all refreshed, excited and enthusiastic about getting to know your child and supporting their learning throughout the year. In 2015 we welcome to the Primary Team:

Ms Karin Ilich (1B); Miss Jessica Saraco (1G); Miss Federica Carrello (2B); Ms Jacquie Cooney (2G); Ms Talea Graves (6B); Mrs Alison Dillon (Literacy Support); Mrs Meghann Gilmour (Numeracy Support); Mrs Anne Murphy (Primary Counsellor) and Mrs Neysa Gellard (Education Assistant).

At John XXIII we see your child's opportunity to grow and learn as an exciting journey from PreKindy to Year Six and beyond. Along the way they will progressively learn from their mistakes and from any social/emotional challenges that may occur. The staff and I look forward to working in ongoing partnership with you to help your children reach their personal best as learners. Together we will help them to grow to become compassionate, caring, competent individuals; ready to seek justice in the world!

With a nine week term ahead and some important events coming up, please place all of the relevant dates onto your family calendar. Please find attached an updated Primary Calendar for your convenience. If an event is added or changed we will let you know via email.

Our new 'St Francis Xavier Play-Ground' is ready and open! It has many learning and developmental benefits and is also great fun!

Andrew Baldrey from Natural Play has done an amazing job creating this wonderful play space - through his talent and skill the ideas of children, parents and staff have been brought to life!

A huge thank you to Parents' Association and College Council for their support of this natural play-space that will certainly make a significant difference to the learning and well-being of our primary students.

Please make particular note of the Parent Information Meetings. It is essential that every family will be represented. This is your opportunity to meet staff and hear some key messages. The staff and I are looking forward to seeing you!

Please also keep free Saturday, 7th March for our Annual Primary Picnic. More details will follow.

Enjoy the busy term ahead!

Kind regards,

Antoinette De Pinto
