Dear Parents

On a beautiful March evening this week the students from 5B spent the night at Perth Zoo. The air was filled with animal noises and much excitement as the students participated in various activities including a torch-light walk. It was a sight to behold with thirty happy students and also Mrs Fontaine, Mr Fromm, Mrs Magee, Ms Allen and myself all sleeping in the Zoo barn! It certainly was a very unique experience being in such a special place at night! I'm sure the animals and Zoo keepers enjoyed the happy chatter of students and staff until the early hours. Next week students from 5G will have the opportunity to participate in this 'Roar and Snore' mini camp.

Congratulations and thank you to Mrs Goss and all the Year 6G students for preparing today's Assembly. It was fantastic insight into their current studies. In addition, the Wanju Singers sang 'Brave the Elements' so beautifully. Special thanks to Mr Kros for preparing the students so well for their lovely performance.

I hope everyone is coming to school next Saturday 19 March for our Family Easter Picnic. This is a night for the whole family to have fun together and to get to know other families in the John XXIII School community. Tickets can be purchased via Trybooking.

All Primary families are also welcome to come along to Open Day tomorrow, Saturday 12 March. The Open Day will showcase the facilities and programs of Secondary school. It is a great opportunity to find out more about the Year 7 transition program, and the Secondary years that follow. I look forward to seeing some familiar faces walking around the College tomorrow morning.

Enjoy the weekend!

Kind regards

Sports News

Last Thursday evening, 3 March, the College held the Primary Inter-House Swimming Carnival at Claremont Pool. On the evening the spectators witnessed many keenly contested races with really good sportsmanship on display. It was great to have the College's new Principal, Mr Robert Henderson, in attendance for his first Primary Swimming Carnival.

There were many wonderful performances and many races where competitors gave their all for their respective Houses. In the end it was Loyola who came out on top. The results were as follows:- 1st Place (Loyola) 314 pts, 2nd Place (St.Louis) 255 pts, 3rd Place (Koolyangarra) 235 pts, 4th Place (Campion) 233 pts, 5th Place (Ward) 222 pts and (Loreto) finished in 6th Place on 186 pts.

One of the special highlights on the evening was a Spirit Event our Year 6 Girl House Captains participated in this swim alongside with Alice O'Sullivan.

The children have been working really hard on their swimming over the past month and the season will conclude on Tuesday 22 March (Week 8) at Newman College with the IPSHA Interschool Swimming Carnival. Training will continue next week on Monday and Wednesday afternoon. The final training session will take place on Monday 21 March, when all squad members are asked to attend.

A special thanks to the House Captains, all the parents who assisted at the night Carnival and to all the John XXIII Staff for all their hard work on the evening.
