Around the Primary

Dear Parents,

A special early morning Mass was celebrated today for the Fathers of our College community. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to express their love and appreciation for their Dads and father figures. Fr Wilson was delighted to bless over 150 Dads and their children. Special thanks to Mrs Fontaine, Mrs Allen and Year 5G for preparing today's beautiful liturgy. Happy Father's Day to all our College Fathers!

It is hard to believe there are only four more sleeps until the Year 4 Musical 'Rats'. The students under the expert direction of Mrs Shelley Morell have been working hard in their various roles in the musical. I have been very lucky to see a preview and it is a magnificent and entertaining production. It is wonderful that so many families are supporting the musical next Tuesday night as all tickets have now been sold. I'm sure everyone is going to be amazed at the talents of our children.

Next Thursday 11th September all Year 3-6 students will be participating in the Interhouse Athletics carnival. The carnival will commence at 9:00am and the day will conclude with the presentation of the shield to the winning house at approximately 2:30pm. A program of events is attached for your information. We will break for lunch at approximately 12:40pm and students are welcome to join their parents for a picnic lunch on the oval. All students need to wear their house shirt and bring along their hat, sunscreen and a water bottle. There will also be an opportunity for parents to participate in a student/staff/parent race so bring your running shoes if you are keen! We hope to see many parents and friends at the event to cheer on our athletes.

Our NAPLAN results have arrived for students in Years 3 and 5 and the reports will be posted home next week. Please remember that NAPLAN is a test done on one day of the year and the results refer to a single point in time only and may not reflect the full range of your child's ability. The information we receive on each child and each class as a whole allows us to look for trends in our data so we can pin-point areas where we need focus our teaching for the betterment of all students. How to read the NAPLAN

Next Wednesday, 10th September our Year 5 and 6 students will participate in a Cyber-Safety workshop with Susan McLean. All parents are encouraged to attend the evening workshop. http://www.trybooking.com/99347

Farewell from Mr Moylan

As this is the final article I will place in the College newsletter, I wanted to finish with one that is a favourite of mine, 'Raising Calm Kids'.

Our world is a very busy place and this can lead to anxiety for children and parents. This week's article describes simple processes we can all use daily to create some precious quiet time in our lives. Another resource you can use to assist with creating quiet time is a free app called Smiling Mind. You can find out more about this at www.smilingmind.com.au

Thank you to all the members of the College Community who have offered me their best wishes for my new job. It has been a great pleasure to get to know so many of you over the past 16 years. I feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to work within such a wonderful community.

All the best for each of you!

Regards,

Daniel Moylan
