With Mr Mazur back on his feet Chess Club is meeting again on Thursday in the Library and the Astronomy Club met on Friday afternoon. Students have begun their preparation for the Hale School Philosothon and invitations have gone out for the November Year 7 Philosothon at the Art Gallery of Western Australia. This week I attended the meeting of the Executive of the Australian Philosophy in Schools Association. We discussed the teaching of philosophy in schools as well as the overwhelming interest in Philosothons for both secondary and primary students.

Two of our Year 10 Astronomy Club students, Samuel Lukas and Alex King, have been short-listed in the Rotary Carnarvon Space Competition. If they are successful they travel to Carnarvon later in the month to meet astronaut Andy Thomas. Both students participated in the SPIRIT program at UWA and have since taken spectacular photographs of space.

Last week James Roy was our Author-in-Residence. James delighted students from Year 2 through to Year 12 with his enthusiastic approach to writing. His novels are on display in the Library if students want to read his work. We hope to have him back at the College to do more work with our writers.
