It is World Environment Day Tuesday June 5th. WED was established by the UN in 1972 to stimulate worldwide awareness of the environment and encourage political attention and action. The UN has declared 2012 the International Year of Sustainable Energy, the theme for World Environment Day this year is Green Economy: Does it include you? This day is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of a 'green' economy in improving human wellbeing and social equity, while significantly reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities.

We at John XXIII College are celebrating World Environment Day on Tuesday June 5th

  • Students are encouraged to walk/cycle/carpool to school, team up with friends, be careful and have a little fun on World Environment Day…
  • There will be a tree planting ceremony at lunch time; all students are welcome to attend. This is a symbol of our commitment to a sustainable environment at John Xxiii College.
  • There will be a campus clean up during period 5, some very special year 8's have been selected for this challenge, again this is a symbol of our gratitude for a beautiful campus and learning environment at John XXIII College.

Let's all do our bit for the environment, no matter how small, it all makes a difference, our WED activities get people taking about these important issues thus creating awareness in the hope of improving our environment. So on this World Environment Day ask yourself… Does it include you?

If can contribute some sustainable ideas or suggestions for the College please feel free to email me

Let's work together to make a noticeable improvement in the area of sustainability at John XXIII College.
