Around the Primary

Today we celebrated Mass in our beautiful chapel on the Feast Day of our only Australian saint, St Mary of the Cross (Mary MacKillop). The Year 3B students prepared a most reverent liturgy with fantastic singing and lovely readings and prayers.

At this celebration, Fr Wilson blessed the Year 6 leadership badges for Semester Two. All the Year 6 students now have new leadership roles for the remainder of the year and we look forward to seeing them sharing their leadership skills with others around the Primary school.

JOHN XXIII DAY

As you aware, the celebration of John XXIII College Day is scheduled for next Friday 15th August. It is one of the special occasions during the year when the entire student body are involved in community celebrations. The day will begin with a Mass in the gym at 9am and this will be followed by a variety of fun and games, including a visit to the mini-fete. Children are required to wear their sports uniform and House shirt for the day. Let's pray for fine weather on the day and that a magnificent celebratory spirit will be present on John XXIII Day.

As part of our celebrations for Book Week 2014 we are hosting a Book Week parade in the gym on Friday 22nd August at 9am. The theme this year is 'Connect to Reading'. We would like the children to come dressed on the day as a book character they have connected with or a favourite character from a book. They also need to bring the book to school on the day. Parents are very welcome to come along and enjoy the parade too!

The costumes help to promote a lot of discussion about books and story throughout the day. Students have been brainstorming some possible book characters that would be suitable. Here are some suggestions to get you thinking.

Performing Arts Festival

A big congratulations and round of applause for those students who have so far represented our school in this year's Catholic Schools Performing Arts Festival. Our Year 6 Drummers attended the Percussion section held at Trinity College on Thursday and received a wonderful report. Special thanks to Mrs Morell for preparing the students for this performance opportunity and to all the parents who went along to support the children - it certainly helps to see a friendly face or two out in the crowd. We wish our Primary Singers and Mrs Allen all the very best next week as they take part in this Festival and sing at St Benedict's Church. Applecross. They have been working very hard for this performance. We also wish all the children involved in individual performances every success with their performance.

Confirmation and Reconciliation

Congratulations to all the students who will be receiving their Confirmation this weekend at St Thomas Parish, Claremont or St Mary Star of the Sea Parish, Cottesloe. We hope and pray that the gifts of the Holy Spirit will help them to know God better and guide them to be committed to God and the service of others.
