School Counsellor - Primary

In the spirit of John XXIII, Mary Ward and Ignatius Loyola, our College seeks to develop people of competence, conscience and compassion who are committed to God and the service of others.

John XXIII College is seeking a passionate and dedicated Primary School Counsellor to join the College.

This is a part time (0.8FTE) permanent position commencing early September 2014.

As an integral member of the Primary School's pastoral care structure, the Counsellor focuses on the students within the school environment with the goal of maximizing each student's learning potential, emotional well-being, social development and interpersonal skills.

The successful applicant will have excellent communication skills, an energetic and collaborative approach and a depth of experience in working with children and adolescents.

Selection Criteria

Qualifications in Social Work or Counselling.

Substantial demonstrated experience in counselling and clinical skills with children and families.

Eligibility for membership with a relevant professional body.

A demonstrated ability to build relationships across the College Community.

Demonstrated ability to conduct assessments and to apply counselling interventions relevant to the needs of the children and families in the College.

Ability to respond empathically to Children and parents in distress and to manage crisis situations.

Ability to work with staff and parents collaboratively.

Excellent oral and written communication skills and a demonstrated capacity to contribute positively to team effectiveness.

Sound computer skills. Experience with word processing email and internet.

Current Working With Children clearance and Police Check.

Accreditation to work in a Catholic School (favourable)

The applicants must actively support and promote the ethos of the Catholic school and all teachers are required to have, or be prepared to obtain, necessary Accreditation through the Catholic Education Office. A current Working With Children card/application must be submitted at the time of application.
