Around the Primary

Dear Parents

It has been a wonderful week in the Primary School. The days have been filled with various Literacy and Numeracy activities and also preparations for the Junior Primary Sports Carnival. The students are thoroughly enjoying participating in their EduDance sessions and the dance teachers are already highly enthused about the capacity of our talented students.

The Year Six students are focussing on learning about the 'Physical Sciences' this term. Last week they explored circuit making by designing and constructing their very own circuits. They identified that different materials serve as either conductors or insulators and learnt that each piece of equipment can be represented with symbols. They are currently learning about renewable sources of energy and will soon be creating their very own miniature wind turbines. Stay tuned for more updates!

A big thank you to Miss Graves and Mrs Purcell for organising a UWA research student, Siobhan Wills to assist with our students' learning. The students are very excited to be working alongside a real scientist.

This week over one hundred and fifty students from different schools competed in a range of Scientific Challenges at the SciTech Catholic Education Brainstorm Challenge Day. The challenges related to Space, Flight, Engineering, Physics and an investigation in the CSIRO Lab to test the students' scientific knowledge, creativity and problem solving skills. We entered three Year 6 teams and their results have left a record that will be very difficult to match! At the end of the day, there were three teams in equal second place, our teams accounted for two of these positions and our other team received third prize. An outstanding effort! We are very proud of our future scientists. Special thanks to Mrs Magee for co-ordinating this opportunity for our students.

Under the guidance of Mrs Roche our students have produced some beautiful pieces for the Annual Art Exhibition. The Exhibition will be open from 10am - 2pm on Saturday and I encourage all parents to come along and view the students' fantastic work.

We look forward to seeing many parents at our Junior Primary Interhouse Athletics Carnival next Thursday 29 October. Let's all be good role models to our young students and remember to wear a hat and bring along some sunscreen to the carnival.

Kind regards
