Around the Primary

Dear Parents

Next Monday the Year 6 classes and a team of staff will head to Canberra for the College's excursion to our National Capital. The program will concentrate on our Nation's history, culture, heritage and democracy. It is a busy and educational program and a wonderful chance to visit Canberra in all its Autumn glory. This camp experience is a wonderful opportunity for our students to be responsible for themselves and to enjoy the companionship of their friends. It is an also an opportunity for them to be challenged to participate in activities they might not otherwise have done and to do this in a safe environment where they have the support of their friends and teachers.

To get fifty-four students to Canberra is a huge logistical and expensive exercise. We would like to acknowledge the Australian Government's generosity in providing a subsidy of $260 per eligible student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER) program towards the travel expenses incurred. This contribution will be paid directly to the College upon completion of the excursion.

The Year 6 parents will receive regular updates all week, outlining the adventures of our students and staff as they explore the sights of Canberra. The students are very excited about the wonderful learning opportunity ahead and I am sure the students will return with many stories and also great knowledge to apply to their studies.

Special thanks to Mrs Fry, Mrs Gardner, Mrs Goss, Mr Izzard, Mr Edwards, Mr Moylan, Mrs Scott for accompanying the students. A big thank you to Catherine Philpot for all her hard work behind the scenes in preparation for this Canberra experience.

On a different note, all Catholic schools are required to use the new A-E grade descriptors on reports from this year. The chart below outlines these new report achievement descriptors. In brief, a C grade will indicate Satisfactory and this means that the student demonstrates satisfactory achievement of what is expected for this year level. This will provide valuable information regarding your child's achievement of what is expected for the year level.

Kind regards
