Around the Primary

Dear Parents

Today we gathered together as a primary school community to celebrate Mass with Fr Gaetan. A big thank you to Mrs Distante and Year 3B for preparing this lovely Mass.

The teachers have been very busy completing Semester One reports. Following on from last year, all Catholic primary schools in WA will be using A-E grades on school reports for Years 3-6. The A - E grades are as follows:

A: Well Above Standard
B: Above Standard
C: At Standard
D: Below Standard
E: Well Below Standard

These grades are used to align Catholic schools with the achievement standards of the Department of Education of Western Australia and the other states of Australia. When determining a grade at the end of the semester, teachers will take into account the progress a student has made in regard to:

  • What a student can already do at this point in time in relation to the end of year achievement standard.
  • The knowledge, understanding and skills covered up to that point in time.
  • What a student needs to be able to do by the end of the current school year (the characteristics associated with the current end of year grades).

Our Year Six students will be receiving their Confirmation on Sunday, 1st July at St Mary's Cathedral. As part of the final stages of their preparation for this important Sacrament, the Confirmation candidates participated in a retreat at the College today. They started the day with Mass and this was followed by a series of reflective activities with Miss Coniglio, Mr Casey, Mrs Purcell and Mrs Vicoli. Each student was also offered the opportunity to celebrate Reconciliation with Fr. Gaetan. The students have been very well-prepared by their teachers and they are certainly ready for this next step in their faith journey.

Next Thursday the College is hosting the IPSHA Winter Lightning Carnival. This involves our Year 5 and 6 participating in soccer, netball, football and minkey games with students from Loreto, Newman, Carmel, All Saints, Quintillian, Frederick Irwin, St Andrew's Grammar, Tranby College, John Wallaston. Special thanks to Mr Alderman for organising this event. Everyone is welcome to come along!

Kind regards
