Around the Primary

Dear Parents

As Term 3 draws to a close, we look forward to providing parents with another opportunity to come along and view some of your child's work, to talk with your child about their opportunities for learning within the classroom and to praise and encourage them for all their efforts.

On Open Night there will be many spaces around the Primary School for you to visit:-

  • Your child's classroom
  • Various other Primary classrooms, including the Japanese Room and Mary Ward learning environment
  • Library and MacKillop Room for musical entertainment - showcasing the musical talents of our students

We have so much to celebrate and feel proud of in the Primary school. Congratulations to all the students for your enthusiasm, persistence, hard work and most importantly for always seeking to achieve your personal best. A huge thank you to all the staff for your commitment to our students - we are indeed blessed!

Well done to the Pre Primary students for hosting today's Assembly. Their item based on fairy tales was absolutely delightful! Well done and thank you to Miss Monastra and Mrs Murphy for preparing the Pre Primary children so well. It was great to see so many parents enjoying the performance of our young children. Their costumes were amazing too!

Our Year 3 and 5 students NAPLAN results for 2015 are very pleasing. Our results were above the All Australian Schools' Mean in Year 3 in all areas - Reading, Spelling, Writing, Grammar and Punctuation and Mathematics and also in Year 5 - Reading, Spelling, Writing, Grammar and Punctuation and Mathematics.

While these tests are only a 'snapshot in time' of student learning, they do provide teachers and families a window into student achievement and areas of strength and challenge.

Once again we have much to celebrate as a school, in relation to our teaching and learning program. We show very strong results across all learning areas and in both year levels. Teachers will now use analysis of these results to help inform aspects of their planning and teaching into the months ahead.

We thank and congratulate out staff for their commitment to the delivery of quality Literacy and Numeracy programs.

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

On Monday our Year 306 students participated in the Interhouse Athletics Carnival. It was a very busy and exciting day and there was a wonderful atmosphere throughout each of the Houses. Well done to all the students that tried their personal best and also displayed great sportsmanship. Special thanks to Mr Alderman for coordinating the carnival and to the many who assisted on the day. Well done to our Champion House - Loreto.

Grandparents are requested to bring along lunch to share with their grandchildren. Coffee and tea will be available on the day. Years 3-6 Inter-house Athletics Carnival

Due to the inclement weather the Years 3-6 Inter-house Athletics Carnival took place on Monday. The weather was a little overcast but ideal for running and team games. It was an intense competition, but Loreto managed to secure top spot.

The final points were as follows:

1st Loreto (388)

2nd Ward (384)

3rd Loyola (341)

4th Campion (339)

5th St. Louis (315)

6th Koolyangarra (264)

The students displayed great skill, teamwork and sportsmanship during the Carnival. The introduction of 'timing gates' for the first time this year added real excitement and a sense of professionalism to the event. A special thank you to Chris from Timing Solutions for his excellent work on the day. Special thanks to the John XXIII College Parents' Association for their generous sponsorship of the timing gates at the trials and also for the Carnival.

Congratulations to the outstanding athletes on the day.

I would also like to acknowledge the wonderful efforts of the House Captains, the parent helpers at the carnival along with the fabulous assistance from the Grounds and Maintenance Staff and Primary Staff.

Following their successes at the Interhouse Athletics Carnival, over sixty Year 3-6 students were selected to represent our College at the IPSHA Co-Educational Athletics Carnival. Further details will follow next week.
