Around the Primary

Dear Parents,

We have had an amazing week in the Primary School.

On Monday 'Zero the Hero' visited PrePrimary to celebrate the children's 100th day at school. The children thoroughly enjoyed participating in a range of activities designed to celebrate 'one hundred' in fun and creative ways.

On Tuesday morning many students and parents braved the wet weather conditions to participate in cross-country training. The students are now looking forward to displaying their running ability at the Inter-house Cross Country Carnival on Tuesday 20th August.

On Wednesday our Primary Singers performed in the choral section of the Catholic Schools Performing Arts Festival, which took place at St Benedict's Church. Special thanks to Mrs Allen for preparing the students for this event and for Mr Johnson (piano teacher) for accompanying the students at rehearsals and on the day. Our Primary Singers also helped the Secondary Gospel Choir lead the singing at our John XXIII Day Mass today.

On Thursday our Year 6 students received their Leadership badges for their Semester Two portfolios. We believe that every student in Year 6 is a leader and a wonderful ambassador for John XXIII College. I hope you enjoy reading the following comments from some of our Year 6 Leaders.

Being a Year 6 leader is exciting because you get to help out the school and it's nice because we get responsibility. It's good to know the school trusts you with certain jobs. - Amy Exten

As a Year 6 leader we set a good example for the younger children and we are able to complete important jobs around the College. - James Vardanega

Being a leader is great because I get to help people and be a role model for the little children. - Molly Rowbottam

Being a leader at John XXIII College is entertaining because it requires team work and patience and you also become a role model for all of the Primary School. - Cullen Binet

To be one of the Year 6 leaders is an honour because we get to be a role model for others so they can do the same when it's their turn to be a leader. - James Thomson

Being a leader is really good because of the responsibility and trust that we have been given. - Eloise Budimlich

Being a leader at John XXIII College is great because it helps you to be responsible and reliable as well as a role model. - Anneliese Arundell

A leader has to contain the qualities of justice, faith and service so we can help and care for our school. - Katie Newton

To be a leader in Year 6 is a great privilege but also a big responsibility, knowing everything you do will be an example for others. - Thomas Hodge

Today was certainly a fantastic, fun-filled Friday! Our whole school community commenced the day with a lovely Mass in the St Louis Sports Centre. The students then had lots of fun with friends and teachers at the 'mini-fete', kindly organised by our Year 5 and 6 students.

We finished the day with a disco and a movie or team games at Lords. Special thanks to all the staff and parents for their hard work behind the scenes to ensure we certainly celebrated John XXIII Day in style.

We now look forward to the weekend to rest and relax in readiness for another busy week in the Primary School.

Kind Regards

Antoinette De Pinto
