2012 National Cybersafety Summit

While Perth experienced a storm on Tuesday, Canberra was descended on by 250 students, parents and teachers from around the country for the 2012 National Cybersafety Summit. This was the conclusion of the 2012 Youth Advisory Group on Cybersafety for Secondary Students. This year John XXIII College had 9 students involved in the Youth Advisory Group, an online group created to gather the opinions of students on policies made by the Government and issues that affect them. From all of the students involved in the online group, students were then selected to attend the Summit in Canberra.

Selected to attend from John XXIII were Year 8 students, Sophie Minissale and Bayley Horne. Representing the College proudly, they voiced their concerns on Cybersafety to the Hon. Stephen Conroy, Minister for Broadband, Communications and Digital Economy and his staff. They also learnt some key messages about Cybersafety to bring back and share with their peers, which they will do in upcoming Year Group Assemblies. However, the highlight of the Summit for Sophie and Bayley was meeting Bajo and Hex, from ABC's Good Game, and Ruby Rose, DJ and TV personality, who were also there to facilitate discussions with students teachers and parents.

Congratulations to Sophie and Bayley for their excellent participation at the Summit and a big thanks to their parents who also came to participate in the workshops.

The Primary Youth Advisory Group on Cybersafety will be held in Term 3, from August 27 to September 7. This will be open to Year 6 students and more information will be available early next term.
