Around the Primary

Dear Parents

The weeks seem to be slipping by very quickly and we are now almost half way through the term. This morning we took the opportunity to gather together as a Primary school community for Mass and to celebrate God's gift of love and the joy it brings to all of us. Special thanks to Fr Wilson, Miss Deluca, Mrs Allen and Year 5G for preparing this wonderful liturgy - it was a delightful way to start the day.

Last term the Parent Association kindly donated $5000.00 towards the purchase of new reading resources. We quickly went to work and ordered many lovely books and some great new teaching resources, particularly for students with learning difficulties. Additionally the first day of this term was dedicated to professional development based on learning difficulties, particularly dyslexia.

I would like to thank the many wonderful parents who have volunteered to cover these new reading resources. If you have some spare time next week please consider volunteering some time to cover these books at home or at school on Monday 11th November. All materials will be provided!

As part of our ongoing commitment to Information Technology we invite all Year 4 parents to join us for an information session on iPads and ICT in education. The iPad has proven to be a valuable addition to learning tools available in the Primary School. We also recognise the importance in educating students on digital citizenship at home and at school. As a school community we value the opportunity to meet and share information and we hope all Year 4 parents will be able to attend this important talk next Wednesday 13th November. Topics to be covered include:

  • ICT in Education
  • iPad use in the classroom
  • Setting boundaries at home
  • Practical skills demonstration > Setting restrictions, home folder
  • Advice on managing social media tools e.g. instagram, messenger
  • Setting up apple ID
  • School website iPad program > primary app list

This year our Presentation Night will take place in our new gym (St Louis Centre) on Monday 2nd December at 7pm. As this is an important community event for our College all students from Years 4, 5 and 6 are expected to attend. Our Year 5 students will be presenting the Christmas story for us all to enjoy. Please save the date - more information will follow.

Special thanks to all the parents for providing the delicious morning tea for staff today. On 14th November it is our turn to thank all our wonderful parents for the many ways you volunteer around the College. I hope to see many Primary parents at this 'thank you' event next Thursday evening.

Next Friday, 15th November the Year 3G will be holding their assembly. All parents and friends of our community are invited to come along.

Kind regards

Antoinette De Pinto
Head of Primary
